Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (CMSB) has said it will be able produce a year-round reliable supply of cement following the commissioning of its third and largest plant in Mambong, Sarawak. The new plant has an estimated production capacity of 1Mta and represents a MYR190m (US$44.9m) investment.

Managing Director of CMSB, Richard Curtis, said the integrated plant with adjoining clinker plant will increase the firm’s production by almost 60 per cent to 2.75Mta. Current local demand lands at around 1.7-1.8Mta. The 1Mta plant will utilised a 150tph ball mill, two 10,000t silos and a 3000 bag/h packing and palletising machine.

Mr Curtis spoke of how the plant would enable CMSB to meet growing demand in Sarawak, including projects such as the Baleh dam and the Pan Borneo Highway, whilst retaining significant reserve to reduce the risk of supply disruptions.

The EPC contract for this plant was awarded to Christian Pfeiffer Maschinenfabrik GmbH in April 2014. Construction commenced in July 2014 and the plant was fully commissioned earlier this year.
