Cemex Latam Holdings has announced it will present a new application for an environmental permit which would enable the Mexico-based cement producer to increase capacity at its Maceo plant in Antioquia, Colombia.
The plant, which represents an investment of US$340m, is authorised to produce 0.25Mta at present. Earlier the company had applied to raise plant capacity to 0.95Mta, but the request had been denied.
The company said that it decided to postpone the start-up of the plant, while applying for a permit that allows it to operate at full capacity.
"CEMEX Latam will reconsider filing a new application for modification of the environmental licence to expand production to the initially-planned 950,000t," the company said.
