Senegal’s cement production during the first four months of 2017 showed a slight increase of 2.5 per cent, compared to the same period in 2016, African Press Agency (APA) News reported citing the Directorate of Forecasting and Economic Studies (DPEE).
According to DPEE, which relies on data from two cement plants (Sococim and Ciments du Sahel) out of the three existing in the country, cement production increased to 2.27Mt at the end of April 2017, representing an increase of 56,300t in absolute terms compared to the four-month period a year earlier.
The increase was mainly due to export sales, which grew by 21.3 per cent to 1,137,200t, compared to 937,200t in the first four months of 2016. Local sales were down by 12.7 per cent to 1.1Mt versus 1.3Mt in 2016.( Source: Journal du Cameroun)
