LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire has put in place a dust control measures to reduce the environmental impact of the Treichville cement plant in Abidjan's port as part of the company's wider health and safety efforts.
The project involves increasing the number of dust removal filters at the plant. In total 42 filters have been installed, involving an investment of approximately XOF693m (US$1.2m).
Additional investments include probes to monitor the level of silos to avoid material spillage, the installation of an electronic sprinkler system to reduce dust particles and the installation of truck cover systems.
A dust monitoring and alert process was communicated to the Ecological Association of the Boulevard de Marseille and the Youth Union of the Cité Portuaire to ensure collective vigilance of the matter.
Further actions such as planting trees or using conveyor belts to transport materials are also being considered.
