Pakistan International Bulk Terminal set for launch
11 October 2017

Everything is set for the formal inauguration of Pakistan’s first state-of-the-art mechanised coal, clinker and cement bulk cargo terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, located at Port Qasim near Karachi on 14 October. The country's Federal Minister for Port and Shipping, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, and other top government officials are expected to take part in the inauguration.

The terminal had commenced its hot commissioning to become fully operational earlier this year and achieved a significant milestone last year in May by handling the first coal cargo vessel of 41,000t to call at the terminal.

Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Ltd (PIBTL) has invested around US$285m in the establishment of the county’s first and only common-user coal, cement and clinker handling terminal at Port Qasim. Under a 30 year BOT agreement with Port Qasim Authority, the company has built its own jetty and is equipped with two coal ship unloading cranes and one cement/clinker loading crane. The terminal is capable of handling 12Mta of cargo and has a storage yard spread on 62 acres.
