The development of the Hongshi Shivam Cement Pvt Ltd plant in Nepal has provided employment to more than 1000 Nepalis directly or indirectly, according to My Republica.
The plant workers earn a minimum of NPR20,000 (US$194) per month and the company has spent NPR128m on the salary of local workers so far. A portion of the employees are currently building a resettlement site for 26 families displaced by the project’s mine.
"This project will uplift socio-economic condition of locals of Sardi village as well as the entire country," said Lai Weipeng, general manager of Hongshi Shivam Cement.
Construction of the project began in January 2017. Cement production is expected to commence in February 2018, with clinker production to follow in April. Once the project is completed, Hongshi Shivam will have an installed capacity of 6000tpd. The plant represents an investment of NPR36bn from the company.
