LafargeHolcim’s cement plant in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, Spain, invested EUR2m in improving its facilities in 2017, according to a company statement. The sum represents a 20 per cent rise when compared with investment in 2016.

The investment focussed on environmental improvements, including the replacement of continuous measuring equipment in the stack and the installation of fire detection systems in the fuel unloading and storage areas.

In addition, it worked on the rehabilitation of a 13ha area and planted 8500 native trees and shrubs.

In May 2017, the plant began to market a new cement, specially designed for port works, resistant to sulphates and chlorides. The works also supplied cement to works such as the underground tunnel at Gibraltar airport, the Tarifa windfarm and the Estepona hospital in Málaga.
