Spain sees 12% YoY rise in demand in February

Cement demand in Spain increased 11.7 per cent YoY in February, according to the Spanish cement association, Oficemen.

In the 12 months ending February 2018, domestic cement consumption reached 12.6Mt, up 1.3Mt or 11.5 per cent YoY.

Cement and clinker exports from Spain continue to fall with the 12 months ending January 2018 noting a 10 per cent YoY decrease in exports.

In the 4Q17 civil works accounted for 5.6Mt of cement demand, up 11 per cent YoY and accounting for 53 per cent of total cement consumption, according to El Economista. Housing saw a 24 per cent rise and accounted for 28 per cent of total demand. Cement off-take by the non-residential building segment remained stable with a 19 per cent share of the market.
