In the coming month, the Ugandan cement industry is expected to expand with two new plants in Tororo district as Simba Cement and Hima Cement commission their projects. Construction of the works started in February 2017.
Simba Cement will bring its 3000tpd works at Tutir, on the Tororo-Mbale highway, online this month, according to Vishnu Patel, Simba Cement’s country manager. “We will offer employment opportunities to over 200 people directly and more than 2000 people indirectly besides other infrastructural benefits,” Mr Patel says.
The Hima Cement project will enable the cement producer to double its capacity to 1.6Mta and is expected to start production next month. “Once the production kicks off, we will be in position to employ over 250 people directly and this, will also enable us to double our production to 1.6 million metric tonnes, annually,” said Nicholas George, CEO of Hima Cement.
Meanwhile, Tororo Cement has raised its capacity from 1.8Mta to 3Mta.
