Siam City Cement (Lanka) Ltd, which is building a new vertical cement grinding plant in Galle, on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, to raise its capacity by 0.4Mta, is on track for start-up in August.
The new grinding unit is being built at an estimated cost of US$50m and of this total, Siam City (Lanka) spent US$5m to address the plant's environmental impact, according to INSEE Cement Si Lanka CEO, Paul Hugentobler, who further informed media that the company's main aim is to build three ready-mix cement plants in Peliyagoda, Ratmalana and Colombo.
Siam City Cement (Lanka), manufacturers of INSEE Cement, are part of Siam City Cement Public Co Ltd of Thailand and is reportedly the country's market leader with a market share of 38 per cent.
Bangladesh operations
In addition, Siam City plans to enhance its cement capacity of Siam City Cement (Bangladesh) Ltd from 0.5 to 1.2Mta in the first phase and up to 2Mta in the second phase to meet growing cement demand. Siam City Cement (Bangladesh) is a subsidiary of Siam City Cement Group, following the acquisition from Cemex Cement (Bangladesh) Ltd in July 2016. The company has a grinding capacity of approximately 0.5Mta.
