Construction on the new Cimencam plant in Nomayos, Cameroon, is progressing well and the 0.5Mta works is on track for commissioning in early 2019, according to reports by Ecofin Agency.

"In terms of investments, I think Nomayos is the most important. When we go to Nomayos today, there are almost 200 people working, some Chinese and many Cameroonians. The civil engineering is well advanced, a new crusher is on the site. In less than a year, Nomayos will produce,” says Pierre Damnon, former CEO of LafargeHolcim-owned Cimencam, who officially handed over his position to Benoît Galichet on 9 July 2018.

This was confirmed by Cimencam’s Chairman of the Board, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo: "The good news is that early next year, this plant will market its first bags of cement,"

One of several capacity expansion projects in the country, the new plant will raise Cimencam’s total production capacity to 2Mta. It represents an investment of XAF23bn (US$40.7m) and benefits from incentives for private investment as laid out in the law of 2013 (revised in 2017), including significant tax exemptions (5-10 years) awarded to economic operators during the installation and production phases of their companies.
