Geocycle, part of the LafargeHolcim group, produced 53,000t of alternative fuels, the highest in 10 years, at its Albox plant in Spain as it processed 49,000t of waste, up 20 per cent when compared with volumes in 2017.
The company has invested a total of EUR860,000, including a new waste treatment line in Spain. It allows the company to pre-treat a range of wastes, such as plastics, rags and biomass, from the country’s Almanzora region. "With this new equipment it will be possible to avoid sending more than 5000t of waste to landfills and recover all their energy in cement factories, such as [the LafargeHolcim plant of] Carboneras," said Cristina Gómez, head of the Albox plant.
