Payra Port Authority (PPA), under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of Bangladesh, intends to develop a coal/bulk terminal at Payra Port, Kalapara, Patuakhali, Bangladesh, via a public-private partnership (PPP).
The port authority announced it was seeking the expertise of international experts or consortium to participate in proposed project. The successful bidders/consortium will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the coal/bulk terminal and subsequently transfer the terminal to Payra Port Authority based on the terms and conditions set out in the PPP contract.
Bangladeshi imports of coal are growing due to increased use in the power, cement and other sectors. This project will facilitate smooth handling imported coal.
