The handling of imported clinker and other ports in Bangladesh has been suspended due to bad weather caused by cyclonic storm Fani, which is likely to strike the country's coast from today. A large number of vessels laden with imported clinker are at outer anchorage of ports to offload cargo.

The necessary precaution advice has been sent to all types of cargo vessels at port. In addition, all seaport officials have been requested to cancel the leave of the employees.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has also suspended the operation of all types of water transport across the country. The ships at jetties were sent to the outer anchorage and lighter vessels have been sent upstream of Karnaphuli River for safe anchoring. The port hoisted its second-highest danger signal, a port official says. Vessels anchored at the jetties have already been sent to outer anchorage to avoid any casualties during the cyclone.
