The general cargo vessel Sri Lanka Glory, which brought cement clinker to Sri Lanka and later ran aground at Rumassala, Galle, southern Sri Lanka, due to inclement weather last week, is yet to be salvaged. The vessel met adverse weather after offloading clinker for a local cement plant and anchoring at the outer harbour.
The Indian owner of the vessel is likely to send a group of marine experts to Sri Lanka soon to explore the possibilities of salvaging the vessel.
Earlier, according to local media, Marine Environmental Protection Authority of Sri Lanka with the help of local Shanika Marine Company have successfully pumped out 22t of fuel oil from the vessel to avoid any marine pollution at casualty site. The nine crew members of the vessel were also safely rescued by Sri Lanka Navy in extreme weather conditions.
