Cement exports from Algeria reached US$42.41m between January-July 2019, more than septupling YoY, according to the Algerian customs service. Exports of hydraulic cement and clinker rose from US$5.03m in the 7M18.
Forecasts by the Ministry of Industry and Mines show that the country is aiming to lift its cement exports to US$500m over the next five years. The surplus in cement output is expected to reach between 10-15Mt during this period.
In 2020 domestic production capacity is expected to reach 40.6Mta, including 20Mta installed in the plants of state-owned GICA, 11.1Mta at LafargeHolcim Algeria and 5.9Mta in the remaining private-sector companies.
