Colombian market expands 3% in August

Colombian cement dispatches advanced 3.4 per cent YoY to 1.099Mt in August 2019 from 1.061Mta year earlier, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE.

Casanare, Huila, Bolívar and Santander delivered the strongest growth with a YoY improvement of 48.4, 19.8, 15.6 and 13.7 per cent, respectively. Norte de Santander and Huila followed with just short of 11 per cent. Growth was also robust in Antioquia (+6.5 per cent). However, other key regions such as Cundinamarca and Bogotá noted a contraction of 0.4 and 2.8 per cent, respectively.

Domestic cement production increased seven per cent YoY from 1.098Mt in August 2018 to 1.175Mt in August 2019.

In the first eight months cement dispatches rose 3.9 per cent to 8.163Mt when compared with 7.858Mt supplied in the 8M18.

Output was up 4.6 per cent YoY to 8.461Mt in the January-August 2019 period. Production in the corresponding period a year ago reached 8.086Mt.
