A consortium of Portuguese companies will invest more than EUR100m in the country's central region in a project to decarbonise the industry through the use of green hydrogen. the project is scheduled to start next year.
The project, entitled 'Green Hydrogen Valley of Nazaré’, covers a group of companies representing around 10 per cent of total emissions from the national industry. The industrial consortium is led by Rega Energy, a Portugal-based independent producer of renewable gas, and has Águas do Centro Litoral, BA Glass, Cimpor, Crisal, GGND (Galp Gás Natural Distribuição), Secil and Vidrala as founding members.
Project infrastructure will include a dedicated electricity grid, integrating a solar plant for production of electricity from renewable sources that will feed the green hydrogen production facility.
The participants of this consortium expect to start the implementation of their infrastructure by 2023, with the start of the operation scheduled for the end of 2025.
