Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico slipped to 9.3Mt in November 2022 when compared with November 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The leading cement-consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, which accounted together for 35.9 per cent of total shipments in the month.

The leading producing states for Portland and blended cement were Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan and Florida, which accounted for a total 41.8 per cent share of US cement output.

Masonry cements edged up by 2.5 per cent YoY to 203,000t in November 2022. The key markets for this type of cement were Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Tenessee and California. They accounted for 60.7 per cent of November shipments.

US clinker production (excluding Puerto Rico) fell to approximately 7Mt in November. Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama were the main clinker-producing states.

Imports of cement and clinker, including Puerto Rico, declined by 23.6 per cent to 2.2Mt YoY in November 2022.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement (including imports) in the USA and Puerto Rico picked up by 4.4 per cent YoY to 104Mt, said the USGS.

Deliveries of masonry cement in the 11-month period saw a 7.4 per cent increase to 2.4Mt when compared with the equivalent period in the previous year.

Clinker output in the 11M22 remained stable at 73.1Mt when compared with the 11M21.

In the January-November 2022, the US and Puerto Rico imported 24.8Mt, up 20.8 per cent YoY.
