Cement demand in Argentina fell to 661,122t in April, representing a YoY drop of 35.7 per cent from 1,028,598t in April 2023 but up 4.2 per cent MoM from 634,342t in March 2024, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.

Domestic production saw a 35.6 per cent fall to 666,7791t in April 2024 from 1,035,525t in April 2023 but a 4.4 per cent increase MoM from 638,824t in March 2024.

Argentine producers exported 5910t of cement in April 2024, down 14.7 per cent from 6927t in April 2023 but a 24.3 per cent improvement on the 4753t exported in March 2024.

There were no imports in April 2024, but 271t were imported in March 2024.

In the first four months of 2024 cement consumption in Argentina declined 31.3 per cent YoY to 2,746,627t from 3,996,675t.

Domestic output declined 31.2 per cent YoY to 2,766,819t in the 4M24 from 4,019,738t in the 4M23.

Of this total, 22,083t were exported in the January-April 2024 period, down 4.3 per cent from 23,064t in the 4M23.

Domestic production in the 4M24 was supplemented by 1891t of cement, compared with zero imports in the equivalent year-ago period.
