Heidelberg Materials UK has contributed to the Chelsea Repurposed Garden at this year’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show held in London. The RHS Chelsea Repurposed Garden was designed by Cityscapes.

“To build a sustainable and adaptive future, we need to look at ways to reuse and recycle the materials we already have,” said the garden’s designer, Darryl Moore. “To this end, nearly everything in this RHS feature garden has lived at least one life already – much of it at a previous RHS Chelsea Flower Show. As part of this we wanted to be able to use a low carbon cement for the paving in the garden and are very grateful to Heidelberg Materials for donating the material and Jewson for delivering it to site.”

In partnership with its merchant customer, Jewson, Heidelberg Cement UK donated 56 25kg bags of low-carbon cement and the same quantity of Quickcem fast-setting cement to help with the structural elements of the garden.

By repurposing key elements from show gardens dating back as far as 2010, the garden celebrates creative recycling and includes drought-tolerant species planted in crushed concrete and sand salvaged from demolished buildings. After the show, every element of the garden will go on to enjoy yet another new life that continues to benefit people and wildlife.
