The Materials Processing Institute (MPI) has announced the launch of its GBP1m Sustainable Cement and Concrete Centre (SCCC), designed to support the construction sector’s decarbonisation efforts. The centre, set to open later this month, will specialise in advanced research and material innovation, including the development of low-carbon cement formulations and the utilisation of Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) slags in aggregate and clinker production. Supported by MPI’s Advanced Materials Characterisation Centre, the SCCC will also offer consultancy services to accelerate client innovation, providing expertise and project management from concept through to pilot production stages. Ahead of the official launch, MPI hosted a meeting of the Cement Standards and Technical Group from the Mineral Products Association (MPA), giving delegates an exclusive preview of the facility’s capabilities.
