LKAB and Forterra to use brick waste to recycle calcined clay

LKAB Minerals and Forterra are partnering to use recycled calcined clay as a replacement of traditional cement. To produce the calcined clay products, Forterra will crush brick waste from its Kings Dyke plant and deliver it to LKAB Minerals's production line at Flixborough, which is currently under construction and expected to be commissioned in June 2025. The calcined clay will add to the LKAB Minerals' product range as cement alternatives, including ground granulated blastfurnace slag and Gypsol, an anhydrite-based floor screed.
