Aliko Dangote has announced a US$400m plan to revive a second production line at the Mugher cement plant in Ethiopia, aiming to double the facility's capacity to 5Mta.
“We are committed to expanding our operations in Ethiopia. Given the positive investment climate, we plan to double our cement production capacity from 2.5Mta to 5Mt,” Mr Dangote said, during a joint press conference in Addis Ababa with Ethiopian Investment Holdings CEO, Brook Taye.
"The expansion project is expected to be operational within the next 30 months,” Bloomberg quoted him as saying. Dangote Cement also announced plans to establish a new greenfield cement grinding unit with a capacity of 3Mta, reports Bloomberg.
The cement plant expansion project is expected to enable the group to strengthen its position as a leader in the sector in Africa, with a total production capacity of more than 56Mta.
