Cahya Mata Cement Sdn Bhd, part of Cahya Mata Sarawak Bad, is seeking the go-ahead from the Sarawak government for the development of a second clinker line in Mambong, Borneo, Malaysia.
“We are going through the regulatory approvals, and we are working very closely with the state government to obtain approval to start construction,” said CMSB Group General Counsel, Izzam Ibrahim.
“In fact, we have lined up all the necessary manpower and procurement processes to kick-start the project. Once the project is off the ground, the target for completion will remain on track,” he told a press conference at the CMSB Raya Open House on 12 April.
Clinker Line 2 will add 6000tpd of clinker, doubling the plant’s current capacity of 0.9Mta to 1.92Mta. It will enable the state to meet its increasing infrastructure demands in the next 15 years.
A technical consulting agreement for the design and construction of the new line, as well as the optimisation of the first line, was signed in November 2023 with Sinoma Industry Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd. Sinoma will develop the line in cooperation with Cahya Mata Cement.
Line 2 will include a waste heat recovery system that can generate up to 6MW of power as well as and advanced dust filtration systems to reduce emissions by 50 per cent. In addition, the line’s pyroprocessing equipment will be designed to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
The second line is expected to be commissioned in March 2027.
