The cement industry in Colombia could be on the verge of a major shake-up with the possible exit of Cemex, as the company is reported to be exploring the sale of its operation in the country as part of its strategy to focus on North America and Europe.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Cemex began contacts with advisors to evaluate the interest of potential buyers, which could include Holcim and Molins. “The company, based in Monterrey, Mexico, is working with advisors to evaluate potential interest in the unit, the sources said, requesting not to be identified because the discussions are private,” the news agency said.

Cemex is currently the second-largest cement company after Argos in Colombia. The estimated sales value of Cemex Colombia would range between US$700-1000m, although final pricing will depend on market interest, according to Infobae.

This potential divestment follows Cemex’s recent sales of assets in the Dominican Republic and Guatemala in 2024, a move that came after the company regained its investment-grade rating.
