St Marys Cement’s journey towards achieving net zero emissions is advancing through a strategic collaboration with MTR Carbon Capture, a leader in membrane technology for carbon capture.
The St Marys' Charlevoix plant, in the USA, will be the first cement plant in the world to deploy the Polaris™ polymeric membrane-based technology, designed for point-source carbon capture. The pilot project aims to capture 3tpd of CO2 during a six-month testing period, demonstrating that a 95 per cent CO2 capture rate is achievable. The data generated from this pilot project will provide critical insights into enhancing the emissions reduction capabilities of MTR’s membrane-based technology.
St Marys Cement is part of the Votorantim Cimentos Group. The company operates over 6Mta of capacity in four integrated plants and one grinding unit in Canada.
