Pacific Cement Corp (PACEMCO) reopened its plant in Barangay Quezon, Surigao City, after an 11-year closure due to financial constraints, according to the Philippine News Agency.

The reopening follows the investment by San Miguel Corp, which plans to recommence cement production at the plant and increase local economic activity. The company aims to expand domestic production and ensure a stable supply for infrastructure development in Mindanao.

The inauguration was led by San Miguel Corp Vice Chairman and COO, John Paul Ang, and Surigao City Mayor, Pablo Yves Dumlao II. "PACEMCO was a big part of Surigao's history and one of the region's largest companies. It is a Filipino-owned and controlled cement factory," Mr Ang said. "The return of PACEMCO means new opportunities for employment, stronger local enterprise, and increased revenue," said Mr Dumlao.
