The Shur Andem Cement plant, currently under construction in the Kandahar Industrial Park, is nearing completion. Construction of the factory began about two years ago. According to officials, 95 per cent of the work is now complete. The US$100m plant is located near a limestone quarry on a 100-acre plot of land.
Abdul Bari Walizada, the administrative head of the factory, says that after installing technical equipment, cement production will begin within the next six months.
He mentioned that in the first phase, the plant will have a production capacity of 1500tpd, which will increase to 5000tpd in the coming years. “Construction work is 95 per cent complete. Currently, we are installing technical equipment and expect operations to begin within the next six months,” he said.
Kandahar, located in the south of Afghanistan, is considered one of the provinces where hundreds of plants have been activated over the past few decades, many of which are still operational, claims The Kabul Times.
