Turkey: Cimsa Cimento's 1H13 net profit gains

Cimsa Cimento has seen a big rise in its 1H13 profits on the back of increased investment and higher sales. Consolidated net profit grew to TRY218m (US$110m) from TRY49m a year earlier. The first-half performance was mainly driven by income from investment activities of TRY143m compared to just TRY 9m a year earlier. Turkish industrial group Sabanci Holdings is reportedly on the acquisition trail both at home and abroad as it seeks to double its capacity in five years. Ciments Français (part of the Italcementi Group) and its wholly-owned subsidiary Parcib, have signed a deal with Cimsa for the sale of 51 per cent of the capital of Afyon for TRY1,530,000. The overall value of the sale has been fixed at TRY57,530,000, a memo explains. Akcansa and Cimsa seek acquisitions

Two of Turkey’s leading cement producers, Akcansa Cimento and Cimsa, plan two separate overseas acquisitions this year, Bloomberg reports. According to Mehmet Gocmen, Head of Haci Omer Sabanci Holding – which has a stake in both producers – said the companies are looking at purchases in Turkey’s geographical region.
