Colombia dispatches up 14.5% in January

The Colombian cement market expanded by 14.5 per cent YoY in January 2015 as the country’s cement producer dispatched 927,800t of cement, according to the latest figures by national statistics office, Dane. Output rose 8.3 per cent to 0.9Mt when compared with January 2014. The strongest demand growth occurred in Nariño (+165 per cent), Cesar (+37 per cent), Magdalena (+36 per cent),  while Antioquia and Bolivar saw dispatches rise by 25 per cent.

As the Bolivian cement market surged 24 per cent YoY in 2H14, the domestic cement industry was able to increase output by 15 per cent. Peru’s cement dispatches fell 1.7 per cent in January due to an unfavourable construction climate and the change of local and regional governments, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Spain’s cement consumption rose by 5.2 per cent YoY to 769,838t in January 2015, according to Oficemen, the domestic cement association. The latest figures show an acceleration in growth, which at the end of 2014 stood at 0.4 per cent and noted the first annual increase since 2007. Indonesian cement sales fell by 2.9 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in January 2015, as heavy rains affected construction activity in several areas. Most region of the country registered a drop in demand during the month. Colombian cement market expands 10.3% in 2014

Colombian cement consumption increased by 10.3 per cent to 11.9Mt in 2014, according to the country’s statistics service, Dane. The restart of civil works and the start-up of social housing projects is behind the upturn. Major market expansion occurred in the provinces of Nariño (49.2 per cent), Norte de Santander (20.4 per cent), Huila (21.3 per cent) and Cundinamarca (17 per cent). Output from domestic cement plants also rose, by 10.2 per cent to 12.3Mt.

Paraguayan cement consumption update

Paraguayan cement demand currently stands at around 115,000 bags of 50kg, according to local press sources. Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) produces around 50,000 bags/day while Yguazú’s output reaches around 45,000 bags/day. Cement consumption in Spain reached 10.79Mt in 2014, largely stable when compared to the 10.74Mt recorded in 2013, latest figures released by domestic cement association Oficemen show.
