Dugongo Cimentos announces new plant

Dugongo Cimentos is building a new 6000tpd cement plant in Nacala-Porto, Nampula province, on the northern cost of Mozambique. The project is believed to cost US$192m, according to Macao News. The company currently runs a 2Mta integrated plant in Maputo province. The construction sector in Mozambique was estimated to be worth US$724.6m in 2021 with average annual growth of over four per cent forecast in 2023-26.

The founders of Ethiopia’s pioneer taxi service, ZayRide, have added Abyssinia Cement to their investment portfolio for ETB600m (US$11.2m), according to Capital Ethiopia. Kenya-based National Cement Co Ltd (NCC) has announced it will open a new clinker plant in September 2023. Located in West Pokot, the new plant is expected to have a clinker capacity of 2.5Mta. Kenyan cement consumption falls 15% YoY

Cement consumption in Kenya declined from 2.596Mt in the third quarter of 2021 to 2.217Mt in the same period this year, marking a contraction of 14.6 per cent YoY. Cement production over the same period fell from 2.64Mt in the 3Q21 to 2.302Mt.
