Bamburi Cement to raise prices as costs escalate

Kenya-based Bamburi Cement ( Holcim ) plans to increase prices of its products by 2-10 per cent as of 10 March 2022. The company attributed the price rise to higher raw material costs. To sustain its operations, Bamburi will be raising prices of products marketed under its Nguvu, Tembo and Fundi brands, particularly from the company’s Nairobi, Mombasa, Limuru and Sagana depots. The price of a 50kg bag of Bamburi Cement retails between KES600 (US$5.25) and KES770.

Madagascar imports cement to reduce price

The State Procurement of Madagascar (SPM) has imported cement at a reduced price to normalise the price of cement in the market and support the population after the passage of cyclones, reports L’Express. A 50kg bag of cement, imported by Lucky Cement via the Toamasina depot, now costs MGA25,500 (US$6.35), down from MGA26,500 previously.

East African Portland Cement narrows half-year loss

Kenya-based East African Portland Cement Co , owned by Holcim , has narrowed its half-year loss to KES907.1m (US$8m) in the six months to December 2021 from KES1.035bn in the equivalent period of the previous year. There was a modest fall in cement production in Tanzania in 2021 as output fell to 6.436Mt when compared with 6.496Mt in 2020, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. Gebr Pfeiffer has successfully commissioned third line for cement grinding for Mombasa Cement Ltd, Vpingo , Kenya. The project for Tororo Cement subsidary Mombasa Cement included the installation of a Gebr Pfeiffer vertical roller mill  MVR3750C-4. The original order was placed in July 2019 .

Bamburi Cement orders two solar power plants

Bamburi Cement PLC  (Holcim group) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Momnai Energy Ltd to set up two solar plants adjacent to the company's Mombasa cement plant and Nairobi grinding plant in Kenya. East African Portland Cement Co (EAPCC) is looking to target cement sales in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). “In the past 10 years, EAPCC has been missing from the infrastructural agenda due to competition among other challenges. Dugongo cement prices see further rise

The price of Dugongo cement in Mozambique has increased yet again, reports Club of Mozambique.  As of 24 January 2022, a 50kg bag of 32.5 cement now costs MZN360 (US$5.64). A bag of 42.5 cement now costs MZN340.
