Chile-based Cemento Mélon has signed a contract with Enel Generación for the supply of clean and renewable energy in four of Mélon’s operations: the La Calera, Ventanas and Puerto Montt cement plants and the San Bernardo aggregates facility. Research by the Transition Pathway Initiative finds that only 16 of 111 (14 per cent) large publicly-listed industrial companies are aligned with an emissions reduction pathway that would keep global warming at 2°C or below. The combined market cap of the 95 industrial companies failing to align with 2°C or below by 2050 is over US $856bn. The research analysed 169 companies in total. The Regional Autonomous Corporation of Antioquia has notified Cemex Colombia that the modification of the environmental licence of the Maceo plant in Antioquia has been approved. This will allow the extraction of 990,000t of materials (clay and limestone) and the production of up to 1.5Mta of cement.
