CO 2 emissions from US cement plants increased 9.4 per cent to 35.051Mt in 2012 from 32.010Mt the previous year, according to the ‘Inventory of US Greenhouse Gas Emissions & Sinks, 1990-2012, published by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on 15 April 2014. Dangote Cement yesterday launched its 52.5 grade cement to the Nigerian market. The African cement major said at a press briefing it has recalibrated all three of its Nigerian plants (Ibese, Gboko and Obajana) to produce 52.5 grade. The cement has been approved by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), which confirmed that the product meets the requirements of NIS 444-2003 and other relevant standards. Cemex in tyre agreement with General Motors

Cemex has reached an agreement with General Motors (GM) of Mexico to use non-recyclable waste from the carmaker’s manufacturing plant in San Luis Potosí in its kilns. In exchange for the waste, Cemex will power GM’s thermoelectric generating plant. The step will allow both companies “to decrease consumption of non-renewable resources,” according to GM. It will also avoid the need to ship waste abroad.

Najran Cement has said trial operations of a second phase of its waste heat recovery plant are expected to continue to the end of April, the Saudi-based producer said in a bourse statement.
