The British Cement Association (BCA) has announced that all four UK cement manufacturers have achieved their targets under the Climate Change Levy Agreements for 2006. In addition, they have collectively beaten their target of reducing specific energy consumption by 26.6% over 1990 levels three years ahead of schedule, recording an actual reduction level of 27.5%. Lafarge Cement’s Cauldon Works has started trialing the use of recovered fuel oil.     The UK generates more than 400,000t of waste oils a year. Preliminary hearing for cement plant tyre-burning plan, Canada

According to an article in The Kingston Whig-Standard, a date has been set by the tribunal that will hold an independent hearing to challenge  Lafarge’s plan to burn tyres at its plant west of Kingston, Ontario.     The Environmental Review Tribunal will hold its preliminary hearing on September 11 near the village of Bath.
