Romania – Holcim Romania to invest 40m euro in run-up to 2006

Holcim Romania will be investing 40m euro in environmental protection measures by 2006. The company’s key environmental protection objectives include the reduction of atmospheric emissions and the use of industrial waste to safeguard natural resources. Cement Australia now has 10,000 tonnes of limestone stockpiled at its lime kiln north of Gladstone in preparation for this month’s plant commissioning at its new lime kiln. Tyre burning halted

The Environment Agency has suspended tyre burning trials at a cement works, noting that emissions from Rugby Cement went over permitted levels for nearly three hours on Monday last week due to a plant malfunction. The company then continued to burn tyres for fuel, but the agency said that was not allowed under its permit. The UK Cleanaway group claims that  by allowing cement kilns to burn more hazardous wastes there is the risk of lowering environmental standards.
