The Competition Authority of Kenya has approved the proposed acquisition of 60 per cent of the shareholding of Savannah Cement Ltd by Seruji Ltd, according to a Gazette notice dated 27 March 2015. ARM posts flat full-year pretax profit

Kenya's ARM Cement posted a pretax profit of KES2.02bn (US$22m) for 2014, up one per cent YoY. The cement maker, which also has operations in Tanzania, said its revenue for the period fell three per cent to KES13.74bn, mainly because there was no additional capacity expansion during the period, the firm said. Bamburi Cement of Kenya yesterday announced a 5.5 per cent increase in pretax profit from KES5.5bn (US$1.8bn) to KES5.8bn in its full-year results for 2014. East African Portland Cement Co (EAPCC) posted a first-half loss after a maintenance shutdown of its packing and clinker units. The company reported a pretax loss of KES124m (US$1.36m) for the six months to end of December, against a profit of KES171m in the same period in 2013. Pokot Cement plans to construct a power plant to supply its upcoming cement works in Kenya as well as the national grid. ARM Cement has secured a KES4.5bn (US$50m) loan from CFC Stanbic Bank to finance its expansion plans. “The credit adds to our existing facilities and will be used in current and new projects,” said ARM’s chief executive Pradeep Paunrana told Business Daily in an interview on Tuesday.
