Pakistan: FCCL calls board meeting to approve waste heat project

Fauji Cement Company Ltd (FCCL) has informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange that a special Board of Directors of the company will be held on 9 December 2016 to discuss and approve the waste heat recovery power plant (WHRPP) for Line 1, and Wärtsilä's captive power plant at Jhang Bahtar, district Attock, Pakistan. FCCL plans to install 9MW WHRPP at its 3700tpd cement plant and a 16MW Wärtsilä power plant.

Pakistan: 98% capacity utilisation rate achieved

The Pakistan cement industry has achieved its highest-ever capacity utilisation rate at 98.61 per cent, dispatching 3.749Mt of cement in November 2016. This is up on the 3.377Mt registered in November 2015. Domestic consumption for the month in question reached 3.27Mt compared with 2.843Mt a year prior. Pakistan's cement manufacturers posted 12 per cent growth in their profits during the first quarter of the current fiscal year of 2016/17 on high sales and low financial cost, acocording to a Topline Securities research report. Pakistan: Dewan Cement to sell its North cement plant

Dewan Cement Ltd has appointed Next Capital Ltd as the financial advisor for sale of its North cement plant, Kamilpur, near Hattar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Next Capital Ltd will explore the possibility of sale of the North plant which has a production capacity of 3800tpd. The Board announced that this plant sale would be run in parallel with the potential sale of 51 per cent of the shares of the company held by Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui and his associates.

Cement exports to Afghanistan declined 23.4 per cent YoY in October 2016, falling from 0.252Mt to 0.193Mt. Pakistan: gas price reduction to benefit cement manufacturers

The Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammed Ishaq Dar, approved a gas price reduction at a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). The decision will see prices fall from PKR600 to PKR400/mBTU. Lucky Cement, DG Khan Cement and Maple Leaf Cement, each of which operate captive gas-fired power facilities, are set to benefit from the decision with the impact on profitability estimated at 4.1 per cent, 1.6 per cent and 1.2 per cent, respectively.

Pakistan: cement industry export revenue falls in 4MFY16-17

Pakistan cement manufacturers earned revenues of US$28.3m on 543,674t of cement exports in October 2016, compared to US$24.52m on 476,170t of exports in the previous month. These figures represent a MoM rise in dollar value and volumes of 15.42t and 14.18 per cent, respectively.
