Pakistan cement industry showed mixed result of performance in October 2016. Sales of cement in the domestic market accelerated to 15.88 per cent in October 2016, but exports declined by 1.96 per cent compared. Dewan Cement Ltd (DCL) posted a net profit of PKR268m (US$2.55m) for the quarter ended 30 September, a 61.4 per cent increase YoY from the PKR166m registered last year. In its financial statement for the first quarter of the financial year starting in July, Lucky Cement has declared profits of PKR4.04bn (US$38.6m), the Express Tribune reports. Pakistan's two leading cement manufacturers, Maple Leaf Cement Factory (MLCF) and Lucky Cement, have approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to obtain a formal generation licence for setting up power plants in the country.
