Puerto Rican cement sales drop 10%14 September 2021, Published under Cement NewsCement sales in Puerto Rico decreased 9.6 per cent YoY to 51,165t (or 1.26m bags), the third-consecutive YoY fall, according to the Bank of Economic Development (BDE). Cement sales had been increasing since May 2020 following the end of lockdown, peaking at 1.6m in June 2020, which represented the highest sales since 2012. By the end of the year, sales had advanced 2.8 per cent when compared with 2019. |

This represents a YoY decline of 18.8 per cent from 68,220t, the first drop in sales since April last year. FY21 ended with a 31.7 per cent advance in sales from 12.4m bags, or 528,707t, to 16.3m bags, or 694,994.51m. The growth in sales is the highest in 12 years, according to Sin Comillas. |

In the first 11 months of the FY21 639,566t of cement were sold. This represents an advance of 39.2 per cent when compared to 460,487t sold in the 11MFY20, as well as the highest volume since 2014. In April 2020, 451,000 bags, or 19,230t, were sold following going into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic cement production fell in April 2021 to 635,000 bags, or 27,075t, after reaching 771,000 bags, or 32,874t, in the previous month. |
