Puerto Rican cement sales fell 7.4 per cent in September 2019 when compared with the previous year. Cement demand in Puerto Rico decreased 11.4 per cent in August, continuing a seven-month period of decline. In August 1.12m bags of 94lb (42.5kg), or 47,600t were sold. Cement output slipped 2.4 per cent YoY to 1.06m bags – the sixth fall in seven months, according to Sin Comillas. Blended and Portland cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 5.9 per cent to 8.7Mt in April 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Puerto Rican cement sales fell 11.1 per cent YoY to 1.21m bags, or 51,425t, in May, following a 13.9 per cent drop in April. Output from local cement plants was off by one third to 1m bags (42,500t). The May data represent the fourth-consecutive monthly decline since sales started to fall in February, reversing their 13-month climb, according to Sin Comillas. Cement sales in Puerto Rico increased by 3.3 per cent in January 2019 when compared with January 2018, according to news service Sin Comillas. The latest rise represents the 13th consecutive increase in monthly sales. In 2018 sales surged by 38.9 per cent, the first annual increase since 2012.
