Al Jouf sees double-digit rise in 3Q net profit, Saudi Arabia

Saudi-based Al Jouf Cement Co posted a 17 per cent YoY increase in its third-quarter net profit to SAR8.6m (US$2.29m), boosted by higher sale volumes. Operating profit grew almost 19 per cent in annual terms to SAR2.5m. Gross profit rose 10 per cent to nearly SAR19.7m. Cementos Argos, Colombia’s leading cement producer, posted a 69 per cent jump in net earnings for the first nine months of the year to COP217.5bn (US$111m), boosted by higher US sales. Pakistan-based producer Fauji Cement on Tuesday announced a net profit of PKR602m (US$5.8m) during the first quarter (Jul-Sep) of the current fiscal, up three per cent YoY. Earnings per share increased to PKR0.45 from an EPS of PKR0.44 during the period under review. Eagle Materials' first-half turnover to the end of September, including its share of the Texan cement joint venture with HeidelbergCement, increased by 15.2 per cent to US$616.78m. Siam Cement said on Wednesday its third-quarter net profit dropped 20 per cent YoY due to weak demand for construction materials. Tabuk Cement Co recorded SAR21.6m (US$5.76m) net profit in the third quarter of 2014, a decline of 23.94 per cent YoY from SAR28.4m. On a quarterly basis, net earnings were down 49.88 per cent from SAR43.1m. Pakistan-based producer Kohat Cement posted a net profit of PKR683m (US$6.6m) in the three months to the end of September 2014, up 11 per cent YoY. East African Portland Cement posted a net loss of KES386m (US$4.32m) for the year ended June 30, due to price competition, high staff costs and the weakening shilling. The Kenyan cement producer posted a net profit of KES1.7bn a year earlier. The company said its administrative costs had gone up by KES700m following a restructuring of its management, staff compensation and an increase in staff gratuity, Reuters reported.

Southern Cement posted a third-quarter net income of SAR285m (US$76m), rising 53 per cent YoY. The result was above NCB Capital and consensus estimates of SAR200m and SAR196m, respectively.   However, on an adjusted basis, earnings were down 7.6 per cent YoY and below estimates by 12-14 per cent.
