Paraguay’s INC sets 70,000bags/day output target

Paraguay-based Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC) reported that the production of cement at its Vallemí plant is normalising at nearly 50,000 bags/day. The state-owned cement producer currently has a production target of 70,000 bags/day. Interoceanicos to build cement plant in Puno

Peru-based Cementos Interoceanicos has signed an agreement with Satarem to build a 1Mta cement and two lime plants in Puno, Peru, in the next 18 months. The cement producer expects to enter the area’s cement and lime markets in the next two years. The project represents an investment of US$158m. Satarem aims to have a 30 per cent stake in the shareholding of Cementos Interoceanicos as a result of the agreement.

Chilean cement market expands 4% in January

Chile’s cement demand increased 4.4 per cent to 346,463t in January 2021 when compared with January 2020, when demand reached 331,783t, according to CChC, the Chilean construction chamber. However, when compared with December 2020, consumption fell by 5.1 per cent from 364,925t.

Cement dispatches in Peru increased 14 per cent YoY to 1.039Mt in February 2021 from 0.91Mt in February 2020, marking the sixth-consecutive monthly rise, according to the country’s cement producers’ association, Asocem. Argentina's Loma Negra has announced a 20.6 per cent YoY rise in net revenue to ARS13.26bn (US$160m) for the 4Q20, compared to ARS11bn in the year-ago period. February sees 14% pick-up in Brazilian cement sales

Cement sales in Brazil increased 14 per cent YoY to 4.7Mt in February 2021, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Key drivers of the market expansion were the maintenance of real estate works and self-construction as well as favourable weather. Bolivia’s cement market contracts 4% in December

Bolivian cement demand saw a four per cent YoY and a 4.3 per cent MoM drop to 328,064t in December 2020. In December 2019 consumption reached 341,861t while in November 2020 it reached 342,743t,  according to Bolivia’s national statistics institute, INE. Domestic cement production declined to 322,876t in December 2020 from 372,217t in December 2019 and from 361,363t in November 2020.

Argentina’s cement market expanded by 18.2 per cent YoY but contracted 9.3 per cent MoM to 686,602t in February 2021, according to the country's cement association, AFCP. Argos recycles 7m cement bags

Since the start of its Sacos Verdes (Green Bags) initiative in 2013, Colombia’s Argos, has recycled 7m bags. This year alone, 15,910 bags were recycled. The company’s customers have returned more than 1000t of paper, representing the saving of more than 10,000 trees and 80,200m3 of water – sufficient to supply 472,000 people in one day. Due to the initiative, the company has employed more than 16,723 people in solid waste, bag management and cleaning, reports the company.

Cemento Melón expects to bring online Punta Arenas plant by June

Chile-based Cemento Melón expects to see its new US$30m Punta Arenas grinding plant to be commissioned by June 2021, reports La Prensa Austral. The plant is located 8.5km north of Punta Arenas in Chile’s most southern region and has a production capacity of 250,000tpa.
