Peru cement prices among lowest in Latin America

Capeco, the Peruvian construction chamber, reported that the average retail price for grey cement in Peru is around US$6.22 per 42.5kg bag – one of the lowest in Latin America. The highest price is paid in Argentina, where a bag of cement costs on average US$12.34, followed by Nicaragua, Uruguay, Guatemala and Paraguay, where a bag of cement costs around US$10. Holcim completes Yocsina closure

LafargeHolcim has announced the definitive closure of the Yocsina plant in Córdoba’s Industrial Zone, Argentina, to focus its activity in Malagueño from 31 March 2021. New 1Mta cement plant to enter Paraguay's market

The cement plant Cementos Concepcion (Cecon) is currently under construction in Paraguay and is designed to produce over 1Mta from June 2022, when it is due to begin operations. Cecon recently launched an investment vehicle of over US$200m (EUR163.18m) to finance the project. Cecon already has two concrete factories in Limpio. The new cement unit is set to eliminate the country's cement deficit.

Unacem buys Cementos La Unión in Chile for US$23m

Peru-based Unión Andina de Cementos (Unacem) has signed a contract with Cementos La Unión and Aridos Jativa, and the Chile’s Inversiones Mel 20 Ltda for the purchase of the full stake of shares of Cementos La Unión in Chile and 100 per cent of the social rights of Inversiones Mel 20. Peru’s cement market expands 16% in November

Cement dispatches in Peru rose 15.6 per cent YoY in November 2020 to 1.188Mt from 1.028Mt in November 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Of the total, 1.092Mt were supplied by Asocem members. Cement production in Peru slipped 1.6 per cent MoM but rose 22.1 per cent YoY to 1.129Mt in November 2020 while clinker output rose 2.1 per cent MoM and 21.4 per cent YoY to 0.664Mt. The Argentine Miners Union (AOMA) and Loma Negra have reached an agreement after a 10-hour round of negotiations resulted in new basic and additional salaries for the employees of its limestone supplier Minerar as well as a voice in the Cement Agreement negotiations that start in February, according to BAE Negocios. Brazilian cement sales in November totalled 5.315Mt, representing an increase of 11.7 per cent when compared with November 2019, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Sales in November advanced 8.6 per cent YoY to 2.397Mt in the key southeast region while in the northeast, the country’s second-largest market, they were up 10.4 per cent YoY to 1.125Mt. Cement consumption in Bolivia dropped 12.6 per cent YoY to 337,063t in September 2020 from 385,624t in September 2019, according to the country’s statistics office, INE. Chile's cement demand up 16% in October

Cement consumption in Chile increased 16.2 per cent to 392,688t in October 2020 from 337,959t in the previous year, according to the country’s construction chamber, CChC. When compared with the previous month, the market expanded 19.7 per cent from 328,184t in September 2020. In January-October 2020 period, domestic demand dropped 10.6 per cent to 3.043Mt from 3.401Mt in the 10M2019.

Loma Negra forced to stop kilns in Olavarría

A conflict between Argentina’s mining workers' union and Minerar, a key supplier of raw material, has forced Loma Negra to halt its two kilns in Olavarría.
