Turkmenistan temporarily abolishes customs duties on import of cement

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree according to which customs duties on the import of cement products are temporarily abolished starting from October 1, 2008. The decree was adopted with a view to further improving the supplies of cement products to the construction sites of Turkmenistan, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting the press service of the head of state.

Pakistan cement sales drop 15 per cent

Local importers of cement will be getting an extended lifeline as the government has suspended the Common External Tariff (CET) on 240,000t for one year. Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport and HeidelbergCement Group (Germany) on September 4 will launch a terminal designed for handling cement. Initially, the terminal will have the capacity of 200,000tpa of cement. In future, it will be increased to 400,000-500,000tpa. The investments in the construction totaled EUR7m. With the reconstruction and extension of the access railway to the port the terminal’ capacity may be increased to 1Mta of cementy, the DARS Consulting information agency reported.

FG okays importation of bagged cement, Nigeria

Contrary to the Federal Government of Nigeria’s earlier stand that it would not allow importation of bagged cement, it has thrown its gate open for the importation of 50kg bagged cement. The government’s move is against the backdrop of high prices of the commodity in the country despite the freedom earlier given to importers of bulk cement. Minster of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Charles Ugwu, made the disclosure in a press statement issued in Abuja.

Avorniga, an Israeli company that leases the Addis Abeba Cement Plant from Mugher Cement Factory has procured 22,000t of clinker from Pakistan.
