Promised cement from Cuba fails to show

Cement firms raise south India prices

Indian cement companies have raised prices by up to 11.4 per cent, or 20 rupees per 50-kg bag, in south India in the past two weeks to cash in on rising demand from the region’s construction industry, dealers said. The Jamaican government has announced that the first of three shipments of cement from Cuba will arrive this weekend. Information Minister Colin Campbell, told reporters at a Post Cabinet press briefing Monday afternoon that a shipment of 20,000t of cement will ease the shortage facing the construction sector. Two weeks ago the Minister announced that the Cuban government was supplying 65,000 tons of cement to help ease the shortage.

The Pakistan Government will provide a freight subsidy to imported cement, including from India. The amount of subsidy will be about Rs (Pakistani) 60 per 40 kg bag.
