The Venezuelan housing ministry plans to sign a supply contract with Mexican Cementos Mexicanos (Cemex), the head of the ministry, Luis Figueroa, said in a statement on April 5, 2006.  The additional cement supply to Venezuela will allow it to better meet growing domestic demand and to stabilise prices. Castle Cement last week commenced hostilities against rival Cemex for business in Scotland, with plans to develop a new rail distribution centre in North Lanarkshire  A Castle spokesman said: "Lafarge is the dominant company in Scotland with about half the market share, while Castle and Cemex jostle for second place.  "Castle wants to get a bit closer to Lafarge." Gujarat Ambuja March cement shipments rise, India

Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd , India’s third-biggest cement maker, said on Monday its March shipments rose 13 percent from a year earlier to 1.33Mt.  Production in the same period totalled 1.33Mt, up 12 per cent from 1.185Mt a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

The Pakistan cement industry and the government have reached an agreement to put a moratorium on cement exports for 25 days to contain its rising prices. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Local Organising Committee (LOC), Karan Singh has stated that the shortage of cement in the region is not affecting the construction of Guyana’s Providence Stadium.
