Italcementi’s North American arm, Essroc, has agreed to acquire Holcim’s slag cement grinding centre in Camden, New Jersey, and the cement terminal at Everett, Massachusetts. The proposed disposal is subject to the Holcim purchase of Lafarge going ahead. The Camden grinding centre has a capacity in excess of 0.5Mta.

The Indian competition authorities have approved the Holcim Lafarge merger, subject to the disposal of one integrated works and one grinding centre in the east of the country, representing a capacity of around 5Mta. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2015 were about 4.8Mt, up by about two per cent from the level in February 2014, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows. Essroc, the North American subsidiary of Italcementi group company Ciments Français, has signed an agreement with Holcim to purchase the slag cement grinding facility in Camden, New Jersey, USA. As part of the transaction, Essroc will also obtain Holcim cement terminal in Everett (Massachusetts). McInnis Cement plans to build a US$40m distribution warehouse along the East River in the Bronx, New York, to help develop the borough's waterfront and reduce road traffic.
