Cement demand in Peru up 2.5% in November

Cement consumption in Peru totalled 0.902Mt in November, representing a 2.5 per cent YoY rise but a MoM drop of 2.5 per cent, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Algeria’s Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia has inaugurated a new 1.5Mta cement plant in Timektane, 260km from Adrar. Further expansion of the DZD21bn (US$181m) works is planned in a second stage, which will take cement capacity to 3Mta. Holcim Argentina to invest US$120m in Malagueño

Holcim Argentina has announced a US$120m investment to raise cement capacity at its Malagueño plant by 45 per cent. The expansion project includes the reconstruction of a complete clinker line and a new cement mill as well as the refurbishment of the dispatch lines. LafargeHolcim plans PLN150m investment in Kujawy

LafargeHolcim intends to invest PLN150m (US$42m) in alternative fuel-related projects in its Cementownia Kujawy cement works in Poland. The company will modify the clinker line to burn alternative fuels and improve product quality. The investment will also include the construction of new cement loading terminals and the launch of a fully-automated laboratory.

Colombia has fined Cementos Argos, Cemex and Holcim over COP200bn (US$66m) for fixing prices, according to Reuters. The fine has been applied to the companies and some of its managers.
